The Academic Year
Undergraduate Studies
The following schedule contains the dates prescribed by the University
Senate for academic activities. Dates relating to fee payment, cancellation
of course selections, late charges, and other fees or charges will be published
in the Important Dates and Deadlines section of the 2003-2004 Registration
Instructions and Class Schedule booklet.
The academic year is divided into three terms:
Fall term: September - December
Winter term: January - April
Summer term: May - August
Courses are offered in the following patterns:
Fall term: September - December
Winter term: December - April
Fall/winter: September - April
Early summer: May - June
Late summer: July - August
Full summer: May - August
Courses are offered during the day and the evening.
Fall Term 2003
September 1
Last day for receipt of applications from potential fall graduates.
August 30 -September 3
PrepWeek. Academic and social orientation to the campus.
September 1 (Monday)
Statutory holiday, University closed.
PrepWeek activities continue.
September 2 (Tuesday)
Fall term begins.
September 2 - 3
Academic Orientation. All students are expected to be on campus.
Class and laboratory preparations, departmental introductions for students,
and other academic preparation activities will be held.
September 3 (Wednesday)
Orientation for Teaching Assistants.
September 4 (Thursday)
Fall and fall/winter classes begin.
September 19 (Friday)
Last day for registration.
Last day to change courses or sections for fall/winter and fall-term courses.
September 30 (Friday)
Last day for receipt of applications for review of final grades in summer
term courses.
October 10 (Friday)
University Day at Carleton.Undergraduate classes suspended.
October 13 (Monday)
Statutory holiday, University closed.
November 7 (Friday)
Last day to withdraw from fall-term courses.
Last day to submit, to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities,
Formal Examination Accommodation Forms for December examinations.
November 15
Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a degree program
for the 2004 winter term.
November 16 (Sunday)
Fall convocation for the conferring of degrees.
November 17 (Monday)
Last day for tests or examinations in courses below the 4000- level before
the final examination period (see Examination Regulations in the
Academic Regulations of the University section of this Calendar).
December 1
Last day for receipt of applications from potential winter (February)graduates.
December 1 (Monday)
Last day of fall term classes. Fall term ends. Last day for receipt of
applications for degree program transfers for 2004 winter term. Last day
for handing in term assignments for fall term courses, subject to any
earlier course deadline.
December 4 -22
Final examinations in fall-term courses and mid-term examinations in fall/winter
courses will be held. It may be necessary to schedule examinations
during the day for classes held in the evening and vice versa.
