St. Patrick's Building (SP)

The St. Patrick's Building once housed St. Patrick's College, a small liberal arts school which joined the university in 1979. The building is now home to the School of Journalism and Communication, the School for Studies in Art and Culture, the Carleton University Art Gallery, and the extensive St. Patrick's Building Resource Centre.

Designated parking
Stormont-Dundas House (six spaces) and Visitor Parking Lot 6 (three spaces).

Exterior Entrance
Accessible main entrance at ground level to level 2.

Tunnel Access
Tunnel access at level 1.

Elevators
One accessible elevator servicing all levels.

Washrooms
Washrooms on levels 1, 3, and 4 are useable if not fully accessible.

Telephones
Pay phones are located behind heavy doors at stairwell on first level. Not accessible to wheelchair or hearing impaired users.

Lecture/Classroom Areas
Generally accessible, but most of the labs on the third level, belonging to the school of Journalism, are not accessible to wheelchair users.

Study Areas
Study facilities in the Resource Centre on levels 1 and 2.

Proximity to Lounges/Refreshments
The various departments have their own lounges. Easy tunnel access to Oasis Cafeteria on first level of the Commons.

Existing/Remaining Obstacles
Modifications are needed for Rooms 303 (print lab), 304 (darkroom), and 327 (Radio News) to accommodate students in wheelchairs when the need arises.

Remarks/Hints
To get from the first level to the second level of the Resource Centre, use elevator outside the Centre. The second level is a mezzanine structure with stair access only inside the Centre.
