Grenville/Russell House (GR/RU)

Renfrew House(RH)

University residences, named after Ontario counties in the Ottawa Valley - Lanark, Renfrew, Grenville, Russell, Glengarry, Stormont and Dundas - provide homes to 1,667 students in double and single rooms. Senior residence fellows offer advice and counsel and help new students make a successful transition to university life.

The University Commons is the hub of residence life. Most students in residence meet here for their meals. The building also contains Fenn Lounge, offices, a convenience store, an arcade, pub and information desk.

Designated parking
One designated parking space at the back of Russell House. Additional spaces are available at Stormont-Dundas.

Exterior Entrance
Accessible main entrances at ground level.

Tunnel Access
Accessible tunnel entrance directly across from tunnel entrance to the Commons Building and Glengarry House.

Elevators
One useable elevator; dimensions not sufficient to accommodate a large wheelchair, some control buttons may be difficult to reach for some wheelchair users.

Washrooms
Na accessible public washrooms. Private washrooms in the designated accessible suites should be accessible.

Telephones
Accessible phones in the lobby of Russell House and Grenville House.

Lecture/Classroom Areas
Not applicable.

Study Areas
Not applicable.

Proximity to Lounges/Refreshments
Residence floors have large accessible TV lounges. Close to all cafeteria/ lounge facilities in the Commons.

Existing/Remaining Obstacles
Elevator not very accessible; heavy doors with high handles at tunnel entrance; need an automatic door opener; Rooms 165 A and B (one of the designated accessible suites) still have minor access problems.

Remarks/Hints
A two-bedroom suite has been renovated to accommodate students with disabilities in each of these two residences.
