The Mackenzie Engineering Building

The Mackenzie Building honours Chalmers Jack Mackenzie who was Carleton's second chancellor, president of the National Research Council, first president of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and instrumental in the development of science and engineering education in Canada. The building contains facilities to support all engineering disciplines. It's also home to Carleton's industrial design program.

Designated Parking
Closest designated parking in Lot 2, near Architecture Building (three spaces available).

Exterior Entrance
Two accessible ground entrances from outside:

  • front entrance off Library Road and
  • off courtyard.

Tunnel Access
One accessible entrance, towards the direction of the Residence Complex. Tunnel entrance across from Architecture Building leads to stairs only.

Elevators
Two useable elevators; elevator from tunnel entrance (Block A) services three levels; the other in Block C from level 1 services four levels.

Washrooms
Accessible women's washrooms on ground level (room 2280) and men's washroom on second level (room 3424).

Telephones
Student phones available in rooms 283 and 295. Pay phones at basement level are inaccessable.

Lecture/Classroom Areas
Laboratories and classrooms are generally accessible but require modified work stations for wheelchair users. Room 230 is inaccessible but can be accessed through room 228. Key can be obtained from the Assistant Dean of Engineering.

Study Areas
There are various accessible resource centres and study areas throughout the building.

Proximity to Lounges/Refreshments
Closest cafeteria/lounge facilities located in the University Centre.

Existing/Remaining Obstacles
Exterior entrances are accessible with some form of difficulty; only Block A has ramps (very narrow, complicated further by heavy doors).

Remarks/Hints
Use catwalk structure adjacent to the School of Industrial Design for quick, easy access to the School of Architecture. The catwalk from level 2 in Mackenzie Building (Block A) is accessible to level 4 of the Architecture Building.
