Philosophy (PHIL)Department of Philosophy Faculty of Arts and Social SciencesPHIL 2201 [0.5 credit]Introduction to Marxist PhilosophyThe evolution of Marx's social and political views in the setting of 18<cp:Superscript>th<cp:>- and 19<cp:Superscript>th<cp:>- century anarchism, liberalism and conservatism. Themes of humanism, freedom, rights, the state, democracy, alienation, and inequality, primarily as they develop into the theory of historical materialism.Precludes additional credit for PHIL 2200. Prerequisite: 0.5 credit in philosophy or permission of the Department. Lectures three hours a week. |
