Graduation Requirements

In addition to the requirements listed below, students must satisfy:

  2. the Faculty regulations applying to all B.A. students including those relating to First-Year Seminars and Breadth requirements (see the Academic Regulations and Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts Degree ).

Program Requirements

Art History
B.A. Honours (20.0 credits)

  1. Credits Included in the Major CGPA (10.0 credits):
  1. 1.0 credit in ARTH 1100 and ARTH 1101 (to be completed by the end of second year, that is, normally within the first ten credits);
  2. 1.0 credit in Period Studies Before 1750;
  3. 1.0 credit in Period Studies After 1750;
  4. 1.0 credit in ARTH 3106 [1.0];
  5. 5.5 credits in art history collectively satisfying:
    1. 2.0 credits at the 3000-level;
    2. 1.5 credits at the 4000-level excluding ARTH 4900, ARTH 4901, ARTH 4902, ARTH 4909[1.0];
    3. 1.0 credit in art history at the 4000-level;
    4. 1.5 credits in art history;

      5. and

    5. 0.5 credit in Canadian Art;
    6. 1.0 credit in Art, Institutions and Society;
    7. 0.5 credit in Aboriginal/Non-Western Art;
  1. Credits Not Included in the Major CGPA (10.0 credits):

B.A. Combined Honours (20.0 credits)

  1. 1.0 credit in ARTH 1100 and ARTH 1101;
  2. 5.5 credits in art history collectively satisfying
    1. 4.0 credits at the 2000-level or above;
    2. 0.5 credit at the 4000-level, excluding
      ARTH 4900, ARTH 4901, ARTH 4902, ARTH 4909 [1.0];
    3. 1.0 credit at the 4000-level;

      4. and

    4. 0.5 credit in Period Studies Before 1750;

Minor in Art History

This minor is open to all undergraduate degree students not in Art History programs.

Requirements (4.0 credits):
  1. 1.0 credit in ARTH 1100 and ARTH 1101;
  2. 1.5 credits in art history at the 2000-level;
  3. 1.5 credits in art history at the 3000- or 4000-level;
  4. The remaining requirements of the major discipline(s) and degree must be satisfied.

Notes for programs in History and Theory of Architecture:
  1. No more than 1.5 credits may be taken as directed readings and/or the Honours Research essay.
  2. Architecture courses which are workshops or studio-based may not be taken for credit in these programs.
  3. Architecture courses taken to fulfil the requirements of these programs are not transferable to other programs in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
