Undergraduate Studies
The following schedule contains the dates prescribed
by the University Senate for academic activities. Dates relating to fee
payment, cancellation of course selections, late charges, and other fees
or charges will be published in the Important Dates and Deadlines section
of the 2004-2005 Registration Instructions and Class Schedule booklet.
The academic year is divided into three terms:
Summer term: May - August
Fall term: September - December
Winter term: January - April
Courses are offered in the following patterns:
Early summer: May - June
Late summer: July - August
Full summer: May - August
Fall term: September - December
Winter term: December - April
Fall/winter: September - April
Courses are offered during the day and the evening.
Summer term
2004
March 1, 2004
• Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a degree program
for the 2004 summer term.
May 1
• Last day for receipt of applications for degree program transfers for
the 2004 summer term.
May 17
• Full summer and early summer courses begin.
May 21
• Last day for registration and course changes for early summer and full
summer courses.
May 24
• Statutory holiday, University closed. Missed classes may meet May 28.
June 4
• Last day to withdraw from early summer courses. Last day to submit, to
the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities, Formal Examination Accommodation
Forms for June examinations.
June 25
• Last day of classes for early summer. Last day for handing in term assignments,
subject to any earlier course deadline.
June 28 - 30
• Early summer final examinations will be held. It may be necessary to
schedule examinations during the day for classes held in the evening and vice
versa.
July 1
• Statutory holiday, University closed.
July 5
• Late summer courses begin.
July 9
• Last day for registration and course changes for late summer courses.
July 23
• Last day to withdraw from full summer and late summer courses. Last day
to submit, to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities, Formal Examination
Accommodation Forms for August examinations.
August 2
• Civic holiday, University closed. Missed classes may meet August 6.
August 13
• Last day of summer term. Last day of full summer and late summer classes.
Last day for handing in term assignments, subject to any earlier course deadline.
August 14-18
• Final examinations in full summer and late summer courses will be held.
It may be necessary to schedule examinations during the day for classes held
in the evening and vice-versa.
September 30
• Last day for receipt of applications for review of final grades in summer
term courses.
October 16
• Summer term deferred final examinations will be held.

Fall term 2004
September 1, 2004
• Last day for receipt of applications from potential fall graduates.
September 4-8
• PrepWeek. Academic and social orientation to the campus.
September 6 (Monday)
• Statutory holiday, University closed.
• PrepWeek activities continue.
September 7 (Tuesday)
• Fall term begins.
September 7 - 8
• Academic Orientation. All students are expected to be on campus. Class
and laboratory preparations, departmental introductions for students, and other
academic preparation activities will be held.
September 8 (Wednesday)
• Orientation for Teaching Assistants.
September 9 (Thursday)
• Fall and fall/winter classes begin.
September 24 (Friday)
• Last day for registration.
• Last day to change courses or sections for fall/winter and fall term
courses.
September 30 (Thursday)
• Last day for receipt of applications for review of final grades in summer
term courses.
October 8 (Friday)
• University Day at Carleton. Undergraduate classes suspended.
October 11 (Monday)
• Statutory holiday, University closed.
October 15
• Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a degree program
for the 2005 winter term from applicants whose documents originate from outside
Canada or the United States.
November 5 (Friday)
• Last day to withdraw from fall term courses.
• Last day to submit, to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities,
Formal Examination Accommodation Forms for December examinations.
November 14 (Sunday)
• Fall convocation for the conferring of degrees.
November 15
• Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a degree program
for the 2005 winter term.
November 22 (Monday)
• Last day for tests or examinations in courses below the 4000-level before
the final examination period (see Examination Regulations in the Academic Regulations
of the University section of this Calendar).
December 1
• Last day for receipt of applications from potential winter (February)
graduates.
December 6 (Monday)
• Last day of fall-term classes.
• Fall term ends.
• Last day for receipt of applications for degree program transfers for
2004 winter term.
• Last day for handing in term assignments for fall term courses, subject
to any earlier course deadline.
December 9 - 22
• Final examinations in fall term courses and mid-term examinations in
fall/winter courses will be held. It may be necessary to schedule examinations
during the day for classes held in the evening and vice versa.
December 25 - January 2 (Note:

Formal Examination Accommodation Forms for April examinations.
March 24 (Thursday)
• Last day for tests or examinations in courses below the 4000-level before
the final examination period (see Examination Regulations in the Academic Regulations
of the University section of this Calendar).
March 25 (Friday)
• Statutory holiday, University closed. Missed classes may meet April 6.
April 1
• Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a program (except
Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Social
Work), for the 2005 fall term, from candidates whose documents originate outside
Canada or the United States.
April 6 (Wednesday)
• Last day of fall/winter and winter-term classes. Classes scheduled on
this day will be those appropriate to a Friday, to replace classes missed on
March 25. Some lectures, laboratories, review tutorials, etc. may take place
in Review Week until the end of winter term on April 8.
April 7- 8
• Review Period. Some lectures, laboratories, review tutorials, etc. may
take place.
April 8 (Friday)
• Winter term ends.
• Last day for handing in term assignments, subject to any earlier course
deadline.
April 11 - 29
• Final examinations in winter term and fall/winter courses will be held.
It may be necessary to schedule examinations during the day for classes held

May 1
• Last day for receipt of applications for admission to the Bachelor of
Journalism program and the Child Studies program for the 2005 fall term.
June 1
• Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a program (except
Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Humanities, Bachelor of Industrial
Design, Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Social Work and
Child Studies programs) for the 2005 fall term from mature applicants, from those
presenting post-secondary education qualifications and from those transferring
from other universities in Canada or the United States.
• Last day for receipt of applications for admission to a program (except
Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Humanities, Bachelor of Industrial
Design, Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Social Work and
