“Women in the Workplace over Three Decades – What must be done for changes in Japan?”

Ms. Midori Nishiura, Hon. RCM., FRSA is a prominent figure in International Relations and a Global Communications expert. In this lecture she will speak of her experiences since returning to Japan from the UK thirty years ago, the progress and change that has occurred in that time, and what needs to be done in the future to further improve gender equality in Japan.
In Japan, there has been a tide of anger towards the difficulty women face in the workplace, with very few women ever reaching high-ranking positions. Japan is an important G7 country, yet when it comes to gender equality, it can hardly been seen as a model nation. Prime Minister Abe’s government has made great strides to improve gender equality in Japan. However, achieving full gender equality still requires wider societal change. |
