Carleton Centre for Community Innovation
The Carleton Centre for Community Innovation (3ci) is a university research centre based at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Through research, education and program management, 3ci investigates, strengthens and disseminates innovation in sustainable community-based economic development, and local governance, responsible investment, philanthropic and non profit leadership, social finance, and community/university engagement.
Centre for Governance and Public Management
The Centre for Governance and Public Management (CGPM) at Carleton University focuses on political and administrative reform projects in the developing world, post-communist societies and post-conflict regimes. Building on the expertise located in the School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA) and the Faculty of Public Affairs (FPA) at Carleton University, CGPM’s overarching, long-term goal is to be recognized nationally and internationally as a leading Canadian centre of expertise on public sector and public management reform in transitional and developing countries. To achieve this goal, CGPM’s activities will concentrate on three key areas: public administration/management, public sector leadership, and policy development and implementation.
Carleton Sustainable Energy Research Centre
The Carleton Sustainable Energy Research Centre (CSERC) works to integrate work in sustainable energy done by the Faculty of Engineering and Design and the Faculty of Public Administration, together with other faculties in the sciences, social sciences, economics and business. The focus is on a cross-disciplinary approach to reduce energy consumption, research emerging renewable energy sources, and explore strategies for using traditional, non-renewable sources effectively and responsibly.
Decentred Governance in a Digital Era
The Decentred Governance in a Digital Era project lab investigates the intersection of two macro-level changes — the increasing centrality of digital technologies and the rise of decentred governance — that are transforming how we govern and are governed. The project lab is designed to explore and explain the characteristics and consequences of these intersecting changes for governance. The lab will wield unique data collection capacity to track online data sources and processing power to aggregate, join, modify, and analyze existing datasets to answer these governance questions and create a research hub in the School of Public Policy and Administration on these issues.
Regulatory Governance Initiative
The Regulatory Governance Initiative (RGI) is an education and cross-sectoral research hub headquartered at Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA). The Initiative is intended to have a direct impact on enhancing the effectiveness of regulations (in the narrow sense of “delegated law”) as well as other instruments used by governments and companies to achieve regulatory goals. “Regulation”, thus, is interpreted in the broadest sense. The Initative focuses on governance and management issues, be they at the macro-level — such as regulatory policy and instrument choice — or at the micro-level — such as risk management issues at the interface of science and policy and workplace issues.
Transportation Policy and Innovation Centre
The Transportation Policy and Innovation Centre (TPIC) was named a Carleton University Research Centre in May of 2016. TPIC runs as a centre of excellence in public policy with 4 concentrations, all under the umbrella of innovation: Trade and economic development, Urban transportation and infrastructure, Governance (with a focus on regulatory) and Security.
