James is a Professor in both the School of Public Policy and Administration and in the Department of Political Science. His research is focused on the ways in which governments are adjusting their practices and policies to cope with the emergence of problems of the environment and sustainable development. He has written on environmental politics and policy, democratic participation and deliberative democracy, national sustainable development strategies, and socio- technical transitions. Recent work deals with sustainable energy policy and climate mitigation technologies such as carbon capture and storage. |

Simon is currently doing his Ph.D. in the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, at Carleton University. Apart from studying the political, policy and regulatory contexts for the development of photovoltaics in Canada, his dissertation project uses the energy area to investigate the role that crises play in policy change, and their impact on political power. His other research interests include the role of information and communication technologies in development.
