“Economics and Freedom” Speaking Seminar

On Saturday, October 5 the Institute for Liberal Studies will be hosting a one-day seminar entitled “Economics and Freedom.” Students from all schools and departments are invited to attend.

The seminar runs from 10am to 5pm at the Indigo Hotel (123 Metcalfe Street). There is no charge for this event, and lunch is included.

Confirmed speakers include:

Ian Lee (Carleton University) – The Myth of Inequality in Canada – time to roast Chicken Little
Ravina Bains (Fraser Institute) – Property Rights and Canada’s First Nations
Tsvetelin Tsonevski (Foundation for Economic Education) – Why Socialism Fails
Georges Bragues (University of Guelph Humber) – The Future of the Welfare State

How a Diploma Program is Helping Grad Students Make a Difference

Two Carleton graduate students spent three weeks in Burundi in July-August evaluating water and sanitation projects being managed by UNICEF Burundi.

This project was part of their coursework for Carleton’s Grad Diploma in Public Policy and Program Evaluation (DPE).

The students were reviewing the impact of a water system that had been installed in two of eight villages that were set up for repatriated Burundians refugees from Tanzania and the Congo.

SPPA Society’s tour of the East Block of Parliament Hill a success!

As part of orientation weeks, the SPPA Society organized a tour of the East Block of Parliament Hill. A group of 18 students got a glimpse into what Parliament must have looked like in 1872. The tour included a look at Sir John A. Macdonald’s office, the Privy Council Chamber, as well as the office of Lord Dufferin, Canada’s Governor General at the time. Students appreciated the opportunity to bond over their mutual interest in the history and politics of our country.
