Sustainable Development

The Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Development is a 3.0-credit program (6 half-credit courses):

  • 0.5 credit in macroeconomics and public policy: theoretical foundations and current policy debates concerning economic growth and sustainable development, globalization and the open economy, stabilization policy, and fiscal and monetary policy analyzed in the Canadian and international context
  • 2.5 credits in optional courses from the following areas: science and technology policy, industrial policy, innovation and sustainable production, science risk and evaluation, natural resource management, sustainable energy policy, environmental policy, sustainable development in industrialized countries, environmental and ecological economics, urban sustainability, global climate change, regulation and public policy.

Admission

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent). Normally, an average of B+ or higher is required for admission. Students taking PADM 5111 or PADM 5112 must have completed a university course [1.0 credit] covering micro- and macroeconomic theory (ECON 1000 or the equivalent). Students taking PADM 5116 or PADM 5117 must have completed a relevant undergraduate political science course [0.5 credit]. at the second-year level or higher dealing with the institutions and processes by which governments legitimize and exercise power, ideally in a Canadian setting (PSCI 2003 or equivalent). Several years of relevant professional experience in the public sector may be considered as equivalent to this prerequisite.
