AKFC Seminars on Innovative Financing for Development – final event
Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) – in partnership with Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration – is delighted to invite you to the fourth and final event in the AKFC Seminars on Innovative Financing for Development:
Local Assets, Local Needs:
Community Philanthropy in Action
Decades of traditional philanthropy geared towards alleviating poverty have made a difference in countless lives, but billions of people still lack a clear path towards improving their quality of life. To address these issues at home and abroad, some communities are mobilizing local resources as a strategy for lifting people and communities out of poverty. Also known as community philanthropy, this approach works at the grass-roots level by raising capital from local stakeholders to be directed to those in the community with the greatest needs, or to causes that benefit the community as a whole.
Speakers include: Janet Mawiyoo, Chief Executive Officer, Kenya Community Development Foundation; Victoria Grant, Interim Director, The Circle on Philanthropy and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada; Nick Deychakiwsky, Program Officer, Mott Foundation; and Natalie Ross, Program Officer, Aga Khan Foundation, USA.
We hope you will join us:
