Program
The ACPA Organizing Committee is very pleased to announce Catherine Blewett, Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Government of Nova Scotia, as our keynote speaker on Friday, February 15.
Ms. Blewett will joining an exciting list of speakers that include:
- Sir John Elvidge, Former Permanent Secretary to the Scottish Government
- David Darrow, Deputy Minister to the Premier, Government of Nova Scotia
- Roxanna Benoit, Deputy Minister, Alberta Department of Intergovernmental Affairs
- Andy Fillmore, Director, School of Planning, Dalhousie University
- Leanne Hachey, Vice-President Atlantic, Canadian Federation of Independent Business
The conference will cover four issue streams: energy, trade, the Atlantic Workforce Partnership and infrastructure, and also feature a group discussion on best practices and opportunities for Atlantic Cooperation.
Workshops
There will also be 2 workshops taking place on February 14:
1. Public and Stakeholder Engagement
Presenters: Grant MacDonald, Associate Professor, Faculty of Management and College of Continuing Education, Dalhousie University and Tyler Knowlton, Chief Public Engagement Strategist, Office of Policy and Priorities, Province of Nova Scotia
This workshop will involve participants in looking at the values, goals and principles of public engagement, distinguishing public engagement from public relations, exploring what kinds of decision-making situations require engagement and what planning work is required to support authentic public engagement in practice.
2. Five types of ASD to consider for municipalities focusing on service improvements and cost savings
Presenters: Mark Gilbert, Professor, School of Public Administration, Dalhousie University and Brian Smith, MPA Municipal Consultant and Former CAO
This workshop focuses on five different types of alternative service delivery used by Canadian municipalities, ranging from shared municipal services to partnering with the private sector. Service delivery models are discussed and linked with services where they have had successful applications.
