Scholarship awards program for members Italian-Canadian community

CIBPA Ottawa Scholarship Awards Program (COSAP) was incorporated by CIBPA Ottawa to promote and assist access to post-secondary studies for members of the Italian-Canadian community residing in Ontario according to their academic merit and community involvement. In order to achieve these ends, COSAP will offer financial assistance in the form of monetary awards.

Summer languages potluck

Thanks to everyone who came out to the first annual SLaLS Language Centre potluck picnic at the Hartwell Locks on Tuesday, 18 June. Students and teachers of Mandarin Chinese, ASL, Japanese, Italian, academic ESL and more. SLaLS staff too! Great to see you all there! And thanks for the great food contributions: plantain, wings, dumplings, Inarizushi (稲荷寿司)…the list goes on.

Carleton students win Portuguese prizes

Congratulations to Carleton students Michelle Wright (PORT 1010) and Falon da Silva (PORT 1020) on each receiving a “2013 CPLP (Community of the Portuguese Speaking Countries) Book Prize of Excellence”. This prize recognizes students of Portuguese who exhibit proficiency, distinction and a demonstrated interest in learning the language. Prizes were awarded by the Ambassadors of Angola, Brazil, Mozambique and Portugal in a celebration May 8 at the Auditorium of Archives and Library Canada.

24 Annual Japanese Speech Contest

On Saturday, March 2, 2013, students from our Modern Languages program competed against other language learners from the Ottawa region in the 24th Japanese Language Speech Contest. The event was held at Carleton University and featured competition at all levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Carleton students brought home prizes in three of three categories.
