Panic Pendant Wireless Personal Security Alarm Program

The Department of University Safety is committed to ensure the safety of the Carleton University community and the security of all campus facilities.

Carleton University is pleased to announce the introduction of a “Panic Pendant Wireless Personal Security Alarm Program.” The panic pendant alarm program works in conjunction with the Campus Intrusion Alarm System and the Campus Work Late Program administered through the Department of University Safety to enhance the safety of students, staff and faculty working alone during the hours of 10 p.m. – 6a.m, Monday – Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.

This program is co-ordinated through the office of Technical Services.

What is a panic pendant wiresless personal security alarm?
It is an alarm worn as a pendant which lets you trigger an emergency signal to the Safety Dispatch Office. To activate, press and hold the button for approximately 2 seconds. The LED located on the top of the unit will light up to confirm a signal has been sent.
What happens when I trigger my personal alarm?
A panic alarm signal is immediately sent to the security dispatch centre located in Robertson Hall. The alarm signal information appears on a monitor that displays your name, the serial number of your pendant, and the location where you activated the panic alarm.
Does University Safety dispatch a Campus Safety Officer to my location?
Yes! A Campus Safety Officer will be dispatched immediately to your location. Please remain at the location or in an area where it is safe.
Does the pendant panic alarm work outdoors?
No. The pendant panic alarm is for indoor use while on campus.
Who should use a pendant panic alarm?
A pendant panic alarm may be used by students, staff and faculty working late on campus in offices, computer and research labs or in an isolated area where there may be a concern for a person’s personal safety.
What is the cost of the pendant panic alarm?
This is a free service; however, some conditions may apply.
