Card Access to Buildings
Carleton University is committed to providing personal safety and security of property. Some buildings, computer labs, and work areas on campus are accessible after normal working hours with the use of an access card.
Procedures for Obtaining an Access Card
Individuals interested in obtaining an access card must have approval from authorized personnel in the respective department and the department concerned must complete a Card Access Requisition for each individual requesting a card.
The form must have an appropriate authorization signature (i.e. the Departmental Administrator or her/his designate). This form should then be forwarded to the Department of University Safety-Technical Services, which must be in receipt of the authorization before an access card will be issued. Copies of the requisition form are available from the Department of University Safety or on-line.
Terms and Conditions
Access cards will only be issued to those persons having a valid reason to enter buildings outside normal working hours.
The access card must be picked up from the Department of University Safety, 203 Robertson Hall, by the individual user. The applicant must sign for the card and provide valid photo identification (i.e. student/staff card). Current hours: 8a.m. – noon. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
These cards remain the property of Carleton University and must be returned to the Department of University Safety when they are no longer required. There is a $10 non-refundable fee to obtain an access card.
Access cards for faculty and staff will remain valid indefinitely except in cases of change of locale or termination of employment.
Cards issued to undergraduate students are valid as indicated on the Card Access Requisition by the departmental administrator. In cases where no expiry date is provided, the card will be valid until the end of the academic year, at which time the card will be de-activated.
Cards for students requiring continued access or for returning students, may be retained and will be re-activated upon receipt of authorization.
Lost, stolen, or damaged cards must be reported immediately to the Department of University Safety Patrol Office (203 Robertson Hall) and to the concerned department in order to receive authorization for a replacement card. Replacement cards may be obtained from the Department of University Safety in 203 Robertson Hall from 8a.m. to noon, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Equipment malfunctions (electronic card readers, door locks, etc) should be reported to the Patrol Office as soon as possible in order to properly effect repairs. Reports should be made to the Patrol Office at 520-3612 at any time (24 hours a day). If a card does not work due to equipment malfunction, the Department of University Safety will grant access to the building, with proper identification.
