Student Journal of Philosophy

Call for Papers

The Carleton University Student Journal of Philosophy publishes student papers on all topics of philosophical interest. It is designed to offer students their first opportunity to publish philosophical work, and to encourage excellence in student scholarship. Submissions are welcome from both undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty members are urged to encourage students to submit papers. Acceptance is determined by the editor(s), based mainly on the recommendation of faculty referees from Carleton University.

Manuscripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, or HTML files on 3.5" diskette, and must be accompanied by two hard copies. If there are diagrams, tables, figures, or other graphics, each must be placed in a separate file on the diskette in JPEG, PCX, BMP, TIFF, PICT, MacPaint, GIF or EPS format.

The editors encourage the use of a manual of style such as a recent edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers or A Manual of Style (published by the University of Chicago Press). Recent issues of the journal provide examples of preferred style for notes and bibliographic entires.  (If you use footnotes or endnotes produced by Word or WordPerfect, we can automatically convert these to the endnote style used by the journal.) Anyone who is unable to submit a manuscript in the required format or who has questions about formatting should contact the editors at cusjped@carleton.ca or at the address below.

Please include the following with your diskette and hard copies:

Within a few weeks of submission we will send a formal reply that your paper has been received. The refereeing process will take 6-8 weeks, after which we willreply indicating our intenion to publish or not to publish your paper. Due to the volume of papers received, neither the hard copy nor the diskette can be returned.  Papers that are accepted will be published in the version received; there will be no further opportunity for revision. Please ensure all submissions have been thoroughly proof-read and are free of mechanical errors. The Carleton University Student Journal of Philosophy holds the copyright on the papers it publishes.
