Current Projects

The NCI lab is currently undertaking three studies this fall. Two of these projects involve the study of affective processing; or, how the brain processing emotional stimuli in the environment. These studies will expose participants to images with emotional content, in order to detect differences in the electric potentials these images evoke.

The third project that our lab will be involved with is a food-craving study. Previous research has indicated that food-craving correlates with evoked potentials thought to be related to the limbic system. This study will involve measuring participants’ Ghrelin levels (a hormone known to stimulate the feeling of hunger), and correlating them with evoked potentials recorded while viewing pictures of food. This is a collaborative project with Alfonso Abizaid of Carleton University, who is interested in craving research.
