About

View of Chet Mitchell Law Resource Centre with workspaces and book shelvesThe Chet Mitchell Law Resource Centre (sometimes referred to as the ‘Reading Room’) is a reading and reference room in law and the social sciences at Carleton University. Named in honour of the late Chet Mitchell (a former member of the Department of Law and Legal Studies) who had an irrepressible enthusiasm for research and learning in law and the social sciences, it complements the extensive general collection at the main University library by providing a basic, integrated, and accessible reference collection in law and related social sciences for research and study.

The Centre offers students, instructors, and others a facility for research and study between classes, a starting point for more detailed work in the main University library, a forum for research seminars, and an informal focal point for student academic life. The Chet Mitchell Law Resource Centre is maintained by grants and donations, by student, faculty, and support staff work, and by Carleton University contributions. Most of all, the Department of Law and Legal Studies acknowledges with thanks the generous ongoing support which has been given to the Centre by the Law Foundation of Ontario.
