autumn two (a solemn prayer)
Melissa Upfold

my hair has lightened
with summer,
the colour of sand
on fire,
the warmest days.

now the clouds have
moved over
and nothing has a
sheen, just this dull
stillness,

and then rage
against winter -
the coming months
rip trees and people
to pieces,

we all wait,
fearful.
