Institute of Cognitive Science – Instructor I, Term Position (Applications Closing Date: February 1, 2015)

The Institute of Cognitive Science invites applications from qualified candidates for a one-year term appointment in Cognitive Science at the rank of Instructor beginning July 1, 2015 and ending June 30, 2016.

The candidate will be expected to teach a total of 7 one-term courses in the area of cognitive science.  The courses to be taught will most probably be: three sections of CGSC 2001 (Introduction to Cognitive Science), two sections of third year cognitive science courses, such as CGSC 3201 (Empirical Issues in Cognitive Science), and a full-year first-year seminar, FYSM 1607 (Thinking and Knowing).

The Institute of Cognitive Science was established in 2005. The Institute is an independent academic unit with dedicated courses and degrees.  It relies on support from the associated units of Philosophy, Linguistics and Psychology within the Faculty of Arts and Social Science, and Neuroscience and Computer Science within the Faculty of Science. Faculty members include some who are wholly appointed to the Institute, and others with varying degrees of cross-appointment with these other units.  The Institute is unique in Canada in offering a selection of courses specifically housed within Cognitive Science and taught by faculty members who are appointed or cross-appointed in Cognitive Science.  Degrees are offered at all levels (Bachelor of Cognitive Science [B.Cog.Sc.], Master of Cognitive Science [M.Cog.Sc.], and Ph.D.).  Currently the Institute has approximately 300 undergraduates and 45 graduate students.

A Ph.D. in Cognitive Science or a closely related field; demonstrated excellence in teaching courses in cognitive science or a related empirical discipline; research expertise that is relevant to the teaching requirements.
