Career Development Fund
Career development is designed to prepare an employee for another position within the University or to increase the ability of an employee to meet potential requirements of the Employer.
Career development is the responsibility of the employee. However the Employer will endeavour to support the training and development needs of employees in support of their career with the University.

Career Development Fund
The Career Development Fund is available to assist employees who wish to pursue training associated with career development objectives.
Requirements
- Submit a Career Development Fund Application Form before the start of the opportunity. To assist you in completing the form, please refer to this sample.
- Submit proof of completion within two months of completing the learning experience.
- Submit original receipts showing proof of payment for all eligible claimed expenses (tuition, books, travel, accommodation and meals).
- Submit a Learning Experience Evaluation (fill and submit evaluation) within two weeks of course completion.
Career Development Fund requests will be reviewed with funding granted on the basis of relevance, future availability of the learning experience and the applicant’s background. Alternative initiatives may be suggested by Human Resources.
- Note: Career Development Funds are limited. You have access to a maximum of $1,750 per year (July 1 to June 30)
The follow expenses will not be covered:
- Job-related training, this is the responsibility of the employee’s department.
- Cancellation charges.
Eligibility
There are three funds, as follows:
- The CUPE 2424 Career Development Fund: Open to members of the bargaining unit under Article 28 of the Collective Agreement.
- The CUPE 2424 IT Career Development Fund: In accordance with Article 28 of the Collective Agreement.
- The University Career Development Fund: Open to all other non-academic continuing and term employees not covered by the CUPE 2424 Collective Agreement, up to, but not including the level of Administrative Director, Director or Assistant-Vice President.
Cancellation
If the course is cancelled or you cannot attend for whatever reason, please inform Learning & Development immediately. This will allow Human Resources to redirect your unused funds to support another opportunity.
You will be responsible for paying any cancellation charges.
Job Related Development Training
Job related development training is any training or skill upgrading activity required by the Employer.
Funding for Job Related Development is the responsibility of the Employer. This includes both on campus and off campus training courses and seminars.
