Casual Applicant Pool

Casual Applicant Pool

Human Resources is pleased to announce the launch of Carleton’s first Casual Applicant Pool (CAP) services for the University community.  This service will provide departments across campus access to qualified candidates for their short term staffing needs.    It is important to have qualified candidates working at the University to ensure our standards of delivery are upheld for short term casual assignments and especially during peak work periods.

Why Hire from the Casual Pool?

Based on the candidate’s skills and qualifications, Human Resources conducts a pre-screening interview to ensure that they possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong communication skills, flexibility, and a strong sense of professionalism.

In addition, Human Resources will administer testing of each candidate in Microsoft Office to determine their level of proficiency in this commonly used product suite.  The testing will cover Word, Excel, and Outlook.

How will HR Assist?

Human Resources offers support to the hiring supervisor through the casual staffing process, including but not limited to:

  • Recommending a candidate for an assignment
  • Recommending a fair and equitable hourly salary rate based on position requirements
  • Sourcing, assessing and providing resumes of skilled candidates who meet the qualifications of the assignment
  • Setting up interviews and sitting on the interview panel  if required
  • Providing administrative support to the hiring supervisor  when completing the necessary paperwork
  • Tracking casuals to ensure prompt and accurate inclusion in the union or employee group
