Areas of Research:
My research explores national identity construction in 1960s Canada. I am investigating the discourse on cultural pluralism contained within cookbooks and menus from special dining events, such as Expo 67. More specifically, I aim to unpack the tensions and paradox stemming from, on one hand, aggressive culinary assimilation policies targeting Aboriginal communities, and on the other, the integration of Native elements into a new “Canadian cuisine”.
