Dr. Micheline Manseau, Wildlife Ecologist, Office of the Chief Ecosystem Scientist, Parks Canada in presenting: “A landscape perspective on the conservation of caribou in Canada”

Abstract:
Caribou are found across Canada and present different ecological and behavioural traits. In order to understand the basis of these differences and implications for conservation, we will look at how different methods and knowledges are contributing to a better depiction of these large systems.

Biography: ­­­­­

Dr. Micheline Manseau is Wildlife Ecologist in the Office of the Chief Ecosystem Scientist of Parks Canada and Associate Professor at the Natural Resources Institute, University of Manitoba. Her primary research focuses on the development of non-invasive methods for the study and monitoring of wildlife populations, the development of new analytical methods in landscape ecology and landscape genetics to define animal population structure, to identify critical habitat and movement corridors, and the delineation of ecological boundaries for the management of wildlife species and protected areas. Dr. Manseau works in different regions of Canada and her projects relate to the impact of environmental changes, land use activities and emerging policies. She works with the different levels of government, aboriginal organizations and the private sector.
