Ph.D. Student Bryan Grimwood Awarded Graduate Scholarship by Tourism Cares

Ph.D. student Bryan Grimwood was awarded an ASTA Joseph R. Stone Graduate Scholarship by Tourism Cares. The scholarship is awarded to graduate students, studying travel and tourism or hospitality, at a college or university in the United States or Canada. It was established to honor Joseph R. Stone, past President of ASTA [American Society of Travel Agents].

Tourism Cares is a non-profit public charity with a mission to preserve the travel experience for future generations. It accomplishes this by mobilizing the travel and tourism industry and travelers alike to give back to society through grants to natural, cultural and historic sites worldwide; through academic, professional, and service-learning scholarships for students of hospitality and tourism; and through the organization of volunteer efforts to clean up and restore tourism-related sites in need of care and rejuvenation.

Bryan’s research interests include:

  • Geographies of nature and responsibility in the context of outdoor recreation, leisure, travel, and learning
  • Moral geographies of Canadian riverscapes and, specifically, the Thelon River in the central Canadian Arctic
  • Northern community-based research, collaborative inquiry, and qualitative methods

 Congratulations Bryan
