Geography graduate students win awards at Prairie Summit

Two Geography Master of Science students have won best student poster awards at this year’s Prairie Summit. The Prairie Summit is the first joint meeting of the Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG), the Canadian Cartographic Association (CCA), the Canadian Geomorphology Research Group (CGRG) and the Canadian Remote Sensing Society (CRSS).
Valerie Torontow took the best student poster award from both the CRSS and the CAG GIScience group. Her poster and paper were entitled: Multivariate forest modeling and mapping using Quickbird imagery and topographic data in Chelsea, Québec.
Nick Ochoski received the runner-up award from the CAG GIScience. His poster and paper were entitled: Phragmites australis detection using high resolution RADARSAT-2 analysis.
