The Department of French offers a range of programs to practice and better your French (both oral French and written French). You never learned French but are curious to discover the language and a new culture? Our Department is also the place for you!

Major in French studies

Our programs include a BA Honours with a focus on French Linguistics or francophone literature, Combined Honours, a 3-year Bachelor of Arts and a Combined Honours in Journalism and French.

Minor in French

The Ottawa-Gatineau region is a great place to learn and live in French. Whether you’re just starting out, or you’re already bilingual, we can help you get to where you want to go.

Become bilingual and discover the francophone world from a variety of critical perspectives. Our comprehensive approach to French Studies is geared to the interests and needs of both English and French speakers.

Pursue a co-op placement

Having a good command of French is of course a definite asset for careers in many fields, such as teaching, law, government, management, public relations and international affairs.
