Carleton Announces New First-in-Canada Graduate Degree in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership |
| In the United States, there are 168 graduate programs that train future leaders in the non-profit and philanthropic sector. In Canada, there has not been a formal graduate education in the study of philanthropy. Until now. Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration is launching a new Master of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership degree and graduate diploma in the summer of 2013. More… |

Appeals to patriotism won’t get Canadian retailers far |
| This week Canadian Tire is launching an advertising campaign to celebrate its 90th anniversary as a venerable purveyor of automotive parts, sports equipment, housewares and garden implements. The campaign will celebrate the store as a great national institution, founded in Toronto in 1922, now with hundreds of locations across Canada. The tone is unabashedly patriotic, evoking a sense of country. More… |

Alternative Media in Canada (UBC Press, 2012), is a new book edited by Kirsten Kozolanka, associate professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University and Patricia Mazepa and David Skinner, both associate professors in the Department of Communication Studies at York University in Toronto.The book speaks to how alternative media hold the promise of building public awareness and action against the constraints and limitations of media conglomeration and cutbacks to public broadcasting.
