In an Huffington Post article, director of the School of Journalism Chris Waddell said reporters should refuse any restrictions on their right to ask questions. “It’s not diplomatic protocol.” He adds: “This isn’t appropriate in Canada and shouldn’t be happening.”

Patent protection for brand name drugs should come at a price
Marc André Gagnon, in an article in Troy Media, Negotiations between Canada and Europe for a free-trade agreement has put pharmaceutical patents in the spotlight once again. It has been suggested that improving patent protection for brand name drugs will curry favour with pharmaceutical companies and create an incentive for increased investment and innovation, but the cost to Canadian consumers could be out-of-proportion with the benefits it would create. More…

Carleton Releases Report on Fragile States:

David Carment and Yiagadeesen Samy have penned a major report that assesses stability in fragile states. The report was commissioned by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as part of Carleton’s Country Indicators for Foreign Policy project.

As a country that has been without a central government for more than two decades, Somalia is currently ranked the least stable. The top 10 are rounded out by Afghanistan, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen, Central African Republic, the Sudan, Eritrea, Pakistan and Côte d’Ivoire. More…
