Mike De Souza: Canada missing out on green revolution, panel says; Reducing emissions a major growth sector
Canadian economy will miss out on a booming market of green goods and services worth trillions of dollars if governments fail to steer away from foolish energy and climate change policies, says a new report. “There’s huge potential here,” said Robert Slater, an adjunct professor of environmental policy at Carleton University. “There’s a very substantial business growing at a very fast rate compared to the overall economy.

Ishani Nath: Planning for a public-sector career? Numbers look good
“For younger students, the demographics [in the public sector] are really looking in their favour,” says Susan Phillips, the director of Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration. “Despite recent budget cuts, the public sector still offers numerous opportunities with high entry-level salaries, a professional work environment and the potential for job growth.”

Irina Filatovan: Economy Is Focal Point for Putin’s Foreign Expert Club
“The problem of reducing Russia’s dependency on natural resources was dwelled on during Putin’s meeting with members of the Valdai Club, which was founded in 2004 to facilitate dialogue between Russia and foreign experts.” The club members suggested four possible scenarios for the country’s economic development, which are based on two groups of factors, according Piotr Dutkiewicz, director of the Center for Governance and Public Policy at Carleton University.

The two are co-authors of “No Discretion: On Prorogation and the Governor General.More…

Prorogation is an unnecessary abuse of Ontario Premier’s power.
Lori Turnbull, a visiting scholar at Carleton University and an Associate Professor of political science at Dalhousie University, believes that, “…too often, first ministers make strategic requests for prorogation that are designed to silence a legislature when it suits them and prevent it from performing its scrutiny function.” More…
