Josh Greenberg, an avid runner and associate professor in communication studies at Carleton, kept a close eye on superstorm Sandy and the marathon cancellation. He will be using the marathon debacle as a case study for upcoming classes.

Robert I. Rotberg is Fulbright Research Chair this term in Carleton’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and is also  the founding director of Harvard Kennedy School’s Program on Intrastate Conflict and president emeritus of the World Peace Foundation. He talks about Obama’s plan belief in re-stimulating the weak economy of the U.S. by creating a massive public works program that will put people back to work in great numbers, reflate the U.S. and pull Canada and the rest of the world along with it. More…

Carleton’s David Carment, a professor at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and editor of the Canadian Foreign Policy Journal, has published a special issue that examines a number of important aspects of secession, including:

  • An insider’s view of how the U.S. government assessed the crucial 1995 referendum;
  • How Canada might be best positioned to confront secessionist wars abroad; and
  • Why Tamil protesters failed in their bid to influence the current government’s position on the war in Sri Lanka.
