I don’t expect this is a favourite subject of most Observer readers, but it provided a fascinating bombshell of a story last week. In brief, a top college football star named Manti Te’o had been celebrated for months in the American media for overcoming the heartbreaking death of his girlfriend from cancer to lead his team to the national championship game. Carleton Politics Professor Honoured by Canadian Ambassador to Russian FederationCarleton University’s Piotr Dutkiewicz has been honoured by the Canadian ambassador to the Russian Federation for distinguished and sustained contributions to Canada-Russia relations. His photo will now be placed on a wall of honour in the main public reception room of the Canadian Embassy in Moscow. Ambassador John Sloan presented Prof. Dutkiewicz with the award at an embassy ceremony acknowledging his exceptional qualities as a world-class resource on Russia and Canada-Russia relations. It was especially fitting that among those present were two of the embassy political section’s current officers, Margaret Watts and Svitozar Omelko — both of whom are former students of his. More… |
