Excellent Evening at FPA’s 2nd Author Meets Readers Event

The 2nd Author Meets Readers was held at the Georgetown Pub on April 11 with Stan Winer as guest author. His fascinating book on population movement titled Interregional Migration and Public Policy in Canada was the catalyst of an active discussion and many questions about the nature of inter-provincial relocation, the gathering and processing of migration statistics and data and what they say about those who migrate (and those who do not), as well as the process behind the writing of the book itself.

The panel of Maxime Fougère (Assistant Director, Labour Market Research and Forecasting,  HRSDC), Annette Ryan (Chief Economist and Director General  – Economic, Research and Policy Analysis Branch, Industry Canada), and Jean-Francois Tremblay (Associate Professor, Dept. of Economics, University of Ottawa) added valuable insight in regards to the role of of employment prospects (or perceived employment prospects), tax structure and economic variations from province to province, and the role variances in all aspects of society from region to region play in the migration decision.
