Christopher Waddell, Carty chair in business and financial journalism at Carleton University, said foreign ownership restrictions mean there is a limited pool of potential buyers for Canwest’s assets. Ownership of the Canadian media is already hugely concentrated, he said.
“It’s not surprising that (Canwest) would be taken over by someone who already knows the business rather than someone who doesn’t know the business,” he said.
“It’s hard to imagine there’s a rational reason why they would turn down Shaw.”
