Walters and Armstrong receive University Research Achievement Awards

FPA faculty William Walters (Department of Political Science) and Hugh Armstrong (School of Social Work) are among ten Carleton faculty to receive the 2009 Research Achievement Award. Valued at $15,000, the annual RAA was established in 1989 to recognize and promote research excellence.

Hugh Armstrong‘s proposed research will examine the global reach of multinational firms engaged in the lont-term care and homecare sectors of selected high-income countries.  The project is part of a larger program of research being undertaken in several countries, with related projects scanning the legislative, financing, workforce planning and related features of care in national contexts and assessing various aspects of work organization.

William Walters has begun work on a book that attempts to put the idea of minor history (for example,  G. Deleuze) to work in the field of global politics. The Research Achievement Award will support research on one of the case studies: the genesis of the International Red Cross movement.
