Professor Lynda Khalaf and colleagues to receive funding for collaborative research project

Carleton Economics professor Lynda Khalaf, along with a number of colleagues from Canada and U.S., has been awarded funding from Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS), a federally-funded Network of Centres of Excellence which funds mathematical sciences research projects throughout the country, focusing on five key economic sectors: biomedical and health; environment & natural resources; information processing; risk & finance; and communication, networks & security.

Dr. Khalaf’s project, Mathematical and Statistical Methods for Financial Modelling and Risk Management, deals with the mathematics of risk modeling and resource management. Using mathematical and statistical methods, the team develops new tools to help the financial services industry make better decisions about when to trade and at what price based on the available financial data. During the past year, the team focused on the development of statistical methods for measuring volatility and assessing asset pricing models in financial markets.

The project leader is Dr. Jean-Marie Dufour of the Université de Montréal.
