Carleton University launches the Honourable Dick and Ruth Bell Chair for the Study of Canadian Parliamentary Democracy
On Thursday, February 19, 2009, members of the Carleton University community gathered at Ottawa’s Chateau Laurier to celebrate the appointment of Dr. William Cross to the Honourable Dick and Ruth Bell Chair for the Study of Canadian Parliamentary Democracy, and to honour Dr. Ruth Bell for her generous patronage.
Chris Dornan, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs and Director of the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs, opened the evening as Master of Ceremonies. Following a toast by the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray, Chancellor of Carleton University, Dr. Roseanne O’Reilly Runte, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Dr. Ruth Bell each offered remarks. Dr. William Cross, introduced by Dr. Laura Macdonald, Chair of the Department of Political Science at Carleton University, presented the Keynote address.
The Honourable Dick and Ruth Bell Chair for the Study of Canadian Parliamentary Democracy resides in the political science department within the Faculty of Public Affairs and will initiate courses and conferences to promote a better understanding of the dynamic and ever-evolving Canadian parliamentary system.
