Service Learning Alliance Coming to Carleton

Service Learning Alliance Coming to Carleton

Carleton University is getting a new tenant.

The Canadian Alliance for Community Service-Learning will move its headquarters from the University of Guelph to Carleton’s campus this summer. The Alliance is a national network of universities that promotes community-service learning among students, educators and community organizations.

“We are delighted that CACSL is coming to Carleton,” said Dr. Feridun Hamdullahpur, Provost and Vice-President Academic. “The student experience and engagement with the community are two priorities for us going forward. The Alliance knows a lot about both. And we think we can contribute our own lessons and experience in service learning to the national network.”

Supported by the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation, CACSL carries out advocacy, education, research, networking and tools development to advance the theory and practice of community-service learning in Canada. Community-based and experiential education programs at 26 universities and colleges in seven provinces participate in Alliance activities.

“This move fits our network’s national strategy perfectly,” said CACSL’s Executive Director, Cheryl Rose. “We look forward to a productive working relationship with Carleton University as the Alliance develops in the years ahead.”
