Public Affairs student selected as one of Canada’s “Top Twenty Under Twenty”

Laxmi Parthasarathy, a third-year Mass Communication and Political Science student at Carleton, has been selected by Youth In Motion (YIM) to receive a Top Twenty Under Twenty award.

Each year, Youth In Motion — a national non-profit organization which delivers programs to develop career and life skills of today’s youth — selects 20 Canadian students under the age of 20 who have demonstrated innovative leadership, communication and life skills in working toward the betterment of their communities.

In addition to the all-expense-paid trip to Toronto for the awards ceremony, award recipients receive up to $2,000 towards training and/or education, recognition through various media outlets, and the opportunity to attend a 4-day Leadership Summit where they will meet top Canadian business leaders.

Award winners are also matched with Members of the Order of Canada, part of YIM’s prestigious mentoring program (through a partnership with the Office of the Secretary of the Governor General of Canada), and exclusive access to an eight-month leadership development series, in which speakers deliver presentations and respond to questions via conference calls.

Laxmi Parthasarathy and her mentor, John Honderich“I’m so grateful that this award has already extended many once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to all 20 of us,” said Ms. Parthasarathy, “but I can’t wait to experience what’s in store for the rest of the year.”

Ms. Parthasarathy will be paired with John Honderich, former editor-in-chief of the Toronto Star.
