Carleton University produces publications to help new immigrants and refugees

(Ottawa)–Carleton University has received $676,000 from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to continue to produce two publications that provide a unique window on issues facing new immigrants and refugees.

The Research Resource Division for Refugees (RRDR), a research centre housed in the School of Social Work, will continue to publish INSCAN (International Settlement Canada), Canada’s leading bilingual periodical on newcomer settlement and integration, and manage Integration-Net, a national online information hub.

“The Government of Canada is committed to helping newcomers succeed,” said the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. “Both INSCAN and Integration-Net are valuable sources of information that support our efforts towards this objective.”

“With these contribution agreements, Carleton University continues its pivotal national role in the field of immigration and settlement policy,” said Dr. Adnan Türegün, the RRDR’s Executive Director. “We are honoured to have been selected for this work by the Government of Canada.”

INSCAN is a forum for research findings, policy and program innovation, and good practices relating to the settlement, adaptation, and integration of immigrants and refugees in Canada. Since 1987, it has been widely distributed to settlement service providers, policy makers, and researchers and is also available online.

RRDR hosts and administers Integration-Net in collaboration with CIC. The site shares valuable information and research for newcomers on matters such as jobs, resources, and activities.

“These publications provide an unparalleled picture of important issues that need to be researched in collaboration with colleagues in civil society and universities across the country,” said the RRDR’s Academic Director, Professor Behnam Behnia.
