SSHRC Insight Grant 2013

SSHRC Insight Grant 2013

SSHRC Insight Grant 2013 Application Process

Notice of Intent to Apply (NOI)

The first step is to submit a mandatory Notice of Intent to Apply (NOI) by Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. You must complete this step to move on to a full proposal. It is not onerous (some key fields of information and a one-page summary) and it is not adjudicated. The NOI is a planning tool for SSHRC’s program officers to prepare for the full competition. When you click ‘submit’ online, it will send your NOI to SSHRC directly. The NOI will not come to the Carleton University Research Office; however, we would appreciate receiving a copy of your NOI so we know who plans to apply. Please forward your NOI to Darlene Gilson and Pauline Rankin.

Remember that an applicant who has not submitted an NOI by August 15th will be ineligible to submit a full application in the October 2013 competition. NOIs will not be accepted after the deadline. An Insight Grant application will be created for all applicants who have submitted the IG NOI in their Portfolio. IG full application instructions are available here.

Please address any technical questions to the Helpdesk by email: webgrant@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca. For any questions regarding the funding opportunity itself please email insightgrants@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca or telephone 613-996-6976.

Canadian Common Curriculum Vitae (CCV)

The Fall 2013 SSHRC Insight Grant competition will follow the same process as last year. Researchers will NOT interact with the new Research Portal or Canadian Common CV for this round. Insight Grants will be on the old platform which uses the SSHRC CV. The application procedure and deadlines for 2013 are the same as for 2012: SSHRC-CRSH Insight Grant Program Fall 2012. Please note that we expect subsequent competitions will require the CCV. For information on completing a CCV workshop, click here.

4.       Proposal Review

A trusted colleague: we highly recommend you ask a trusted colleague with expertise in your subject area to read and provide constructive criticism of your draft proposal. This should be done as early as possible.

Your research facilitator (Darlene Gilson), your Associate Dean of Research (Pauline Rankin) and your Chair: if you choose not to ask for our help before, we will require a copy of your penultimate proposal and SSHRC CV by Monday, September 16 in order to conduct our comprehensive review and provide comments. To do this, please  ‘submit’ your Insight Grant application online. This will submit your application to the Carleton University Research Office (not SSHRC); Darlene Gilson will access it there from there and then return it to your control so you can continue to work on it/incorporate recommended changes.

Pauline Rankin and Darlene Gilson are available to review your draft proposals at various stages, upon request.

5.       Submission: The final step is to submit your full Insight Grant proposal by Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
