Blair Kennedy, PhD student in Geography, measuring vegetation reflectance (bottom right) to produce spectral reflectance curves (top right) of arctic vegetation types for calibration of satellite imagery (left) to be used to model and map vegetation biochemistry and productivity on Herschel Island, Yukon Territory. This project, under the supervision of Doug King, is a collaboration with Environment Canada’s National Wildlife Research Centre, located at Carleton. It is funded by NWRC and NSERC, and is part of a larger NWRC project developing methods for monitoring arctic vegetation and shorelines for emergency planning in response to expected increased development and shipping as the arctic climate warms.
