THATCamp Accessibility 2012 takes place on October 27th, from 8am to 6pm. This free ‘unconference’ explores the intersection of the digital humanities and accessibility (broadly construed). This could mean everything about user design, to representing data in ways that privilege senses other than sight, to opening up access to data and publications. At a THATCamp, what we talk about is up to the participants!

THATCamps (‘The Humanities and Technology Camp’) are an international series of ‘unconferences’ on the digital humanities.  They take their model from BARCamps, from the world of software development. Participants meet early in the day to work out a series of sessions on topics proposed that morning by the participants. No papers are presented.  Instead, people have conversations about their work, their research interests, problems they’re having, solutions they’re looking at… if we accept that the most interesting part of any conference is during the coffee breaks, then this is a conference with one long coffee break.  Folks are encouraged to move between sessions, and sessions can emerge spontaneously at any point during the day.

Registration is mandatory.  The registration period closes on September 21st. Students, faculty, professionals, and government, K-12 teachers: anyone with an interest in digital media, the humanities, and accessibility are encouraged to attend.
