Aporta Named Fulbright Scholar
Claudio Aporta, an associate professor of anthropology, has been named the Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Canadian Studies at the University of Washington. He will spend the next six months in Seattle conducting research on a project entitled, “The Northwest passage and the construction of Inuit pan-Arctic Identities”. Aporta, an Argentinian-Canadian who completed his PhD studies at the University of Alberta in 2003, will examine a network of trails that are believed to have linked Inuit communities across the North American arctic.
“It is with a great deal of pleasure that I welcome Dr. Aporta to the distinguished group of Fulbright scholars,” says Dr. Michael K. Hawes, Executive Director of the Fulbright Canada and an alumnus of the program, himself (Berkeley, ’99). “Dr. Aporta’s research will make a meaningful and significant contribution the understanding of our shared ancestral history.”
