Bringing Light and Line to life
Bringing Light and Line to life
Following on the success of last year’s collaboration with The School of Dance, James Wright, associate professor of music, has once again partnered with the school to produce Light and Line. Choreographers, dancers, composers and musicians will bring Light and Line to life at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage this Friday, June 4. FASS has sponsored the production.
Under Wright’s direction, music students Stephen Helferty, Andre Morrill, Curtis Perry and Aydin Suatac composed a single movement for the Cadenza String Quartet to perform. Their pieces were inspired by the work of three local artists.
The music conveys the narratives, sentiments and extra-musical ideas portrayed in the visual works On Learning Wings by Audrey Greyeyes, Delta by Neera Huckvale and Rumi’s Chair by Maryse Maynard.
Choreographers and dancers from The School of Dance will interpret both the arts works, and the students’ music that was inspired by them, in their performance.
Wright is enthusiastic about the project: “The gestures of music are intimately related with those of both dance and the visual arts. It’s exciting to be collaborating with The School of Dance again, and to see our students working with the integrated arts in this way!”
