Award winning aid to children

The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa has selected the Ottawa Crown Ward Education Championship Team for this year’s Community Partner Award.

Susan Burhoe of the Centre for Initiatives in Education has been a member of this team since it started in 2007.

The team’s mission is to help Crown wards succeed and encourage them to complete high school and pursue postsecondary education.

“One of the things I have learned from working on this committee is just how willing the Ottawa community is to support youth in need,” said Burhoe. “Our committee has worked hard inspire youth with Crown Ward status to go on to post-secondary study and training.”

The award recognizes “an outstanding commitment to making a difference in the lives of children, youth or families while working in partnership with the Society”.  M. Rick O’Connor of the Children’s Aid Society commended the team for its “extraordinary efforts in bringing the community together to better the educational outcomes for youth.”
