Giving the gift of music

Sales director Greg Malta, recently made the recording collection of the Carleton University Library the recipient of over 2,000 classical CDs in hopes of enlightening and enriching the musical experiences of Carleton students.

Malta, who has been with EMI Music Canada for 22 years, thought Carleton would be a natural destination for the collection, not only because his wife is an alumnus, and his son is currently a student at the university, but because he wanted the works to go to a deserving Canadian university. “With it also being a university in our capital city – it is a perfect fit for archival purposes,” adds Malta.

The extensive Classical Recordings Catalogue is valued at $30,000 and encompasses creative works from the world’s best known composers, conductors and performers.

The only stipulation Malta attached to the donation was that all of Carleton’s students be able to enjoy the set.

“I hope that many people will be able to use the collection over the coming years and nurture a love and enjoyment of music with the collection,” says Malta. “I believe music is an important part of education and life experience that student should have access to.”
