Naming the Witch named for award

Last month, Kim Stratton, professor of religion, College of the Humanities received the Frank W. Beare Book Award for her book Naming the Witch: Magic, Ideology, and Stereotype in the Ancient World. Gender, Theory, and Religion. New York: Columbia University Press: Fall 2007. Stratton was presented with the award at the 2008 Congress of the Humanities in Vancouver.

The Frank W. Beare Book Award, given by the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies (CSBS), recognizes an outstanding book in the areas of Christian origins, Post-Biblical Judaism and/or Graeco-Roman religions written by a member of the CSBS and published during the previous two years. The society has 400 members and is internationally recognized for the quality of its scholarship.
